welcome to the Savage world. Your problem sounds to me as if the previous owner has
done something to the carburator and exhaust. You mentioned a drag pipe, whatever this one is,
never heard of. But probably he has richened up the mixture since the exhaust is getting hot
and blueing. Try adjusting the carburator and have a look if the white spacer has been taken
out. (See somewhere down in this forum).
Thomas, backfiring is a big bang coming out the exhaust and caused by unburned gas/air- mixture
which suddendly comes to an "explosion". Don't ask me why this is caused in the Savage, someone
else might be able to explain this more explicately.
